Senior Cycle
Senior Cycle
Senior Cycle is of two years duration, at the end of which students complete the Leaving Certificate Examination.
Subject choices for the Leaving Certificate in Dungarvan CBS are guided by each student’s interests, career aspirations and the entry requirements for third-level education. We work in close cooperation with our neighbouring school, Ard Scoil na nDéise, to ensure a broad and balanced range of subjects remains available to students in both schools. Students typically study seven subjects, and our shared approach helps us provide the best possible educational experience for all.
Subjects on offer include English, Irish, Maths, French, German, Art, Music, Home Economics, Economics, Business, Accounting, History, Geography, Biology, Physics, Chemistry, Agricultural Science, Engineering, DCG, PE, Career Guidance and Religious Education.
The Senior Cycle reform is designed to make learning more engaging, relevant and supportive by placing greater emphasis on a wider range of skills, beyond the traditional final examinations. As part of this, students complete an Additional Assessment Component (AAC), which may include project work, practical tasks or research assignments carried out during the course. This work is marked externally and contributes to the final grade, giving students and parents a clearer understanding of progress and more opportunities to demonstrate learning throughout the year. The reform has already begun, with additional subjects being introduced on a phased basis over the coming years.
